          His birthplace is uncertain and there's no clear information about it.[1] Nevertheless, some theories have been put forward.[1] Muzaffer Erdogan and Izzet Kumbaracılar believe that he was born in Kalkandelen, whereas Zeynep Nayir believes he might have been born in Elbasan, or that he was conscripted in that region.[1][2] He was brought to Istanbul in 1563 as a "Devshirme" to join the janissary corps or palace schools.
