Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan (born 20 November 1957)[1] is a Nigerian politician who was the President of Nigeria between 5 May 2010 and 29 May 2015.
He was previously Governor of oil-richBayelsa State from 9 December 2005 to 29 May 2007, and became the Vice President of Nigeria on 29 May 2007. Jonathan is a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), which ruled Nigeria between May 1999 and May 2015.

On 13 January 2010, a federal court gave him the power to carry out state affairs while President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua was being taken care of in a hospital in Saudi Arabia.
