I trained in medicine at Oxford and in psychiatry in Edinburgh.
In this discussion, I provide a perspective on perfectionism as a spiritual struggle in such a way that challenges the consoling nature of.
I then spent two years there as a Lecturer in Psychiatry before returning to Oxford in 1979. In 1981 I embarked on full-time clinical research supported initially by the Medical Research Council and since 1984 by the Wellcome Trust (initially as a Wellcome Senior Lecturer and latterly as a Wellcome Principal Research Fellow).
I am a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and I have twice been a Fellow at Stanford's Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences.
I have two main research interests:
